Wall Storage In Your Metal Building

The main aspect of a workspace is space. Without space you can’t work! If you have a single car metal building or a double car metal building, you still have options to increase your work area and organize clutter efficiently. Wall storage options are extremely beneficial to the organizational aspects of your garage.

Slatwall storage systems are very popular. You can easily attach the panels that will allow you to organize your tools and projects in a way that doesn’t clutter your work area or the floor of the garage. Cabinets have a larger imprint than slatwall storage, and conceal your tools. When you have many, it’s important to know exactly where they are so your moment of inspiration doesn’t turn into a 30 minute search for a specific tool. Slatwall paneling can be improved by using some accessories. We reccomend:

• Magnets will make hanging smaller tools easy and convenient.

• Tool racks and paper towel racks for spills more storage

• Cord hooks to consolidate all the wiring involved in a workshop

• Shelving, baskets, small bins for assorted items

Foldaway Workbenches Create A Lot of Extra Space in Your Metal Garage

The workbench is the center piece of most workshops. In most cases, the workbench can be large and clunky in a way that forces the orientation of the room to be centered on it. If you’ve got enough space for a regular workbench, the foldaway workbench is still something you might want to consider. The foldaway mounts on the wall, and is usually mounted with hydraulics that can make lowering the bench easy and stress free. Foldaway workbenches usually have a common standard, and some can be extremely heavy duty for steel work and large creative projects. Typically, we recommend workbenches that exceed or meet these standards.

• 400 lb weight support good enough for most projects.

• medium range size is around 5′ x 2′ on the square top

• latches are backed up by double support for safety lowering

• durable surface rated against whatever you plan on putting on it

Use a Concrete Foundation and Coat Your Floor We always recommend you pour a concrete pad for your garage, and one of those reasons is your ability to use epoxy floor coating. When your doing creative work on concrete you learn over time how it becomes less and less aesthetically pleasing. When you coat your floor, you can clean it easily and keep it that way for years with a good coat. When your floor is clean, it’s a lot harder to leave clutter everywhere. Leaving sawdust on the floor or paint is much easier to clean with a coated floor as well. All around it’s the best method to seriously upgrade the appearance of your garage. drawing of professionally installed cabinetry

Consider Installing Professional Cabinetry

Whenever you’ve been doing your hobby or profession for a long period of time, you accumulate tools and pieces that you need for specific projects. The slatwall storage we mentioned earlier is a great way to clear up your clutter and add some needed space to your garage but with professionally installed cabinetry the workspace and storage space of your metal building can change drastically. The top of the cabinets can be converted into a workspace and every square foot they occupy can be used as storage. If you decide to add on to your garage or metal building later on you can fill the bay with cabinets, or reorganize your workbench in a way that works. Cabinetry can be expensive, especially cabinets made for garage work. Consider getting larger garage if you want to work with cabinetry.

Install Good Lighting In Your Metal Garage

If you’re working with a self installed light system, you could stand to consider an upgrade. When you have good lighting you can make detailed and precise decisions regarding the organization of your metal building or garage. We recommend LED’s due to their growing usage in every light fixture in the modern world. They end up using less energy and are rated for some seriously high hours. Some available for relatively inexpensive prices go for 94,000 hours. You don’t want to have to worry about the lights going out while you’re making cuts and working in the shop. LED’s can prevent that significantly.
