Asheville Carport Sales: More Green Tips About Idling your Car

We’ve already written an article about the impact that carports can have on major ecosystems like the Chesapeake Bay, and an article going into detail about our sustainable building materials. Now we’d like to share some green knowledge from the California Energy Commission, urging drivers to be conscious of idling their cars.

Did you know that “for every two minutes a car is idling, it uses about the same amount of fuel it takes to go a mile?” Here’s a few more surprising green facts for NC drivers:

  • Turning your Engine on and off repeatedly doesn’t use more gas than idling! Within 10 seconds of idling, a car wastes as much gas as it would to turn the car on again. That means that after 10 seconds of standing still, you’re wasting gas.
  • Idling is bad for your cylinders, spark plugs, and exhaust components, whereas shutting off and starting your engine multiple times is proven to have minimal effect upon your car. Save your car while saving the environment!
